I-4 WIDENING URBAN DESIGN THROUGH YBOR CITY

Terra Tectonics was commissioned in 1993 to be the Urban Designers for the widening of I-4 through the National Landmark Historic District of Ybor City. The bridge architecture and urban design are designed to mitigate the effects of the interstate through the historic district. We have been involved constantly in the design process with public meetings, workshops and FDOT reviews. As is typical with large projects this one lasted several years. Unique to this project we designed the pattern on the limestone panels for the bridge by imprinting shells to provide a sense of place.
